Things to do in and around Aspen

Aspen is obviously a skier’s dream, but there are many other activities available for all seasons. If alpine skiing and snowboarding are not the only recreation you are looking for, check out some of these other activities available in the winter wonderland known as Aspen!

Cross-Country Skiing

The Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Trail System features varied and rewarding ski trails, incredible views, trail-side cross-country centers, and other amenities such as restaurants, athletic clubs and training facilities. Snowshoeing

Want to experience the trails and wilderness surrounding Aspen and Snowmass at a more leisurely pace? The Roaring Fork Valley offers great opportunities for snowshoeing along many of the cross-country trails managed by Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Council. Sledding

Tube Town - Snowmass Mountain, this is a fun activity for kids and adults alike. The small admission price allows you unlimited runs on varied terrain on your own specially designed rental sled. Tube Town is open from noon-8 PM December through April, 7 days a week. Free sledding is also available next to the Aspen Recreation Center just outside of Aspen.

Aspen Recreation Center

The Aspen Recreation Center, also known as the ARC, is outfitted with state of the art equipment and amenities for you and your family to enjoy. Conveniently located at 0861 Maroon Creek Road (on the way to Aspen Highlands and the Maroon Bells), the ARC offers training facilities for swimming, skateboarding, ice skating, rock climbing, trekking, golfing and tennis.

Ice Skating

If you'd rather stay in town you can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the Aspen Ice Garden , Aspen's traditional indoor skating facility, which has been referred to by many figure and hockey skaters alike as one of the best maintained surfaces in the region. If you'd rather be outdoors, visit the Silver Circle. Right downtown with the mountains in the background, you'll love the festive atmosphere of this intimate skating venue.

Fly Fishing

It might sound strange to some, but winter fly fishing can be quite exciting and enjoyable. Try a local's favorite of making a few turns on the slopes in the morning and then finishing the day with trying your luck on the stream with one of Aspen's fine outfitters.

Snowmobiling

If you really want to get around the area and see the spectacular winter scenery, try a snowmobile tour with one of Aspen's fine snowmobile tour operators.

Carriage and Sleigh Rides

Make your vacation complete with an old-fashioned carriage ride through the streets of Aspen or a sleigh ride in the meadows outside of town.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet is an internationally acclaimed professional dance company which brings dance to Aspen year-round, including the summer Aspen Dance Festival. The school of Aspen Santa Fe Ballet: Aspen's only ballet school with classes for ages 4 through adult. Jazz and tap classes are also taught.
